BIOGRAPHY
Dominique Gontran Lancastre was born in Guadeloupe. After his Baccalaureate, he left Guadeloupe to study at Paris XII University. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts. He pursued his studies for a further year to achieve a postgraduate Certificate (DEA) to be awarded a PhD in American Studies. His work, over that period of studies, was focused mainly around some aspects of inequalities in schools and education in the United States particularly during the 1960s.
This follows a 3 years course in Chinese and Japanese at S.O.A.S (School for Oriental and African Studies in France "INALCO").
He was a teacher for several Colleges and Lycees in the Academie of Paris-Versailles-Creteil and was also a jury member for Baccalaureate.He is currently employed for British Airways in the In-flight Services Department and is also a translator at Caroline Translation Company in London.
It is during this period working for British Airways and flying the world that he became aware of his own Creole culture and decided to write about it and to promote it. “ The Conservatory ” or "La Veranda” is one in a series of novels to come, in which he will put forward the importance of this culture, its background and its link to the American continent.
